On Friday, October 15th, The California Coastal Commission approved revisions to the 2003 master expansion plan. The goal of the expansion is to increase the standards of the hotel to remain competitive for the next 50 years. The plan includes a conference center with guest rooms above it and a parking structure below to be built on the northern side of the hotel. In addition, there will 144 south beach guest rooms built adjacent to the hotel. Most of the revisions are due to the earthquake fault that Hotel Del Coronado sits on according to geological standards. The fault line has not been active in any recorded history.
