Port of San Diego Tenant’s are Going Green
The Green Business Challenge

Many Port of San Diego’s tenants are already taking part in the Green Business Challenge. To name a few; Coronado Ferry Landing and Coronado Island Marriott and Resort. The Green Business Challenge is a joint program between the port and SDG&E to encourage port businesses in San Diego and Coronado to increase their efficiency and reduce pollution.
The Coronado Island Marriott and Resort has changed a lot of their daily functions with replacing some of their lighting with high efficiency LED lighting…and also swapping out the 23 year old 450 pound washing machines with new 250 pound washing machines resulting in huge water conservation. Coronado Ferry Landing is doing big things in the recycling department with having more than 60 recycling containers all strategically placed on the more than 20+ acre property. They also have recycled paper towels in the common area bathrooms with biodegradable trash liners. These small but effective changes have already proved huge monthly savings and cut down these businesses overhead substantially. 54 businesses are participating in the Green Business Challenge which will run through the end of the year.
I think this is very good news for Coronado Condo owners, Coronado Home owners and businesses since cutting down pollution should raise Coronado Real Estate values. It will be interesting to see what happens to the other businesses around the area as well as to the Coronado Lifestyle…this could start a huge movement in the way that every business in San Diego does business. I know if I saw simple ways of cutting down overhead that I would jump on board.
