Coronado Island Parks

Sit back, relax and enjoy

The City of Coronado has 14 spectacular parks that range in size and purpose. The residents of Coronado are very proud of their many parks throughout the city and can be found in about every neighborhood on Coronado. The city’s maintenance crew performs an excellent job by keeping each park in immaculate condition year round. There is something you will enjoy about each park. The parks are another great feature about the Coronado lifestyle.

 

Coronado Triangle Park

Alameda and Tenth Street

This triangular patch of grass at was named after Louis C. Bande who dedicated his life to the maintenance and well-being of the city as a loyal and dedicated maintenance worker. The park does not offer restrooms or play area but, is a great place to relax and enjoy the scenery.

 

Coronado Cays Park

Coronado Cays Boulevard and Grand Caribe Causeway

Perfect for soccer matches, team activities, a good work out or an evening stroll with the dog. Unfortunately, there are virtually no trees a present but, a playground and restrooms do exist.

 

Coronado Centennial Park

Orange Avenue between First Street and San Diego Bay

The park offers seating to enjoy the rose garden, the beautiful of the San Diego Bay and the skyline of downtown San Diego. If you are in the mood for a picnic with a view, Centennial Park is the park for you. Enjoy the immaculate landscaping and the bay front walking path.

 

Coronado Cronan Park

Sixth Street and Pomona Avenue

This park is named after William Cronin, Medal of Honor recipient for his heroic efforts in the 1905 USS Bennington disaster in San Diego Bay.

 

Coronado Glorietta Bay Park

Silver Strand Blvd

The park is located the south side of the island adjacent to Coronado Recreation Center on the east side of the Silver Strand Blvd. Watch the boats in travel through bay, gaze at the Coronado Bridge and just relax.  The facilities include restrooms, fire rings, picnic tables, and a large grass lawn with many trees. The park opens at 5 am and closes at 11pm. Parking is free.


Coronado Bayview Park

413 First Street

This tucked away smaller venue is a tranquil getaway and  provides spectacular views of the bay and skyline.

 

Coronado Mathewson Park

700 Pamona Avenue

This park is also known as Pomona park and has a small playground including swings and a small activity structure for children. Unfortunately, there are no restrooms at this location but, the benches here are covered by shade. A good place be during summer months. The park is named after former city clerk, A.A. Mathewson.

 

Coronado Cays Park

100 Coronado Cays Boulevard

This large park is located next to the Coronado Fire Station and has a section of it dedicated to the canines. This is a perfect park for your dogs as well as for youth sports. Amenities included restrooms and small play structures for children. This park also offers great views.

 

Coronado Palm Park

511 Third Street

This quiet little park offers a small playground. You will be amazed by the beautiful canopy provided the Torrey Pine that sits in the middle of the park.

 

Coronado SDGE Park

1st street at E Avenue

This park provides a peace and quiet atmosphere. It’s a true hidden treasure. Be sure to visit this park. No restrooms are located here. A portion of the land is owned by San Diego Gas and Electric and allows the city to use it for public use. An agreement established in 1917.

 

Coronado Spreckles Park

601 Orange Avenue

The biggest of the Coronado parks in the center of the village - covers eight acres in the center of town and features a playground and a gazebo. Usually buzzing with activity, this is a popular meeting place for moms, playgroups, family picnics and cheerleading practices. The gazebo is the site of the Summer Concert Series, Sunday nights at 6 pm, from Memorial Day weekend through mid-September. The park is also the site of the Annual Flower Show, Art-in-the-Park and other community activities throughout the year. Donated by and named after one of Coronado’s city father’s J.D. Spreckels in 1927.

 

Coronado Star Park

1030 Park Place

Star Park is home to the annual Memorial Day Ceremony. Donated in 2003 by the Rotary Club, a flag stands in the park in memory of all service men and women that have dedicated their lives to serve our country. It’s in close proximity to the Hotel Del, it’s a great place to enjoy lunch or your favorite ice cream. Its history is as rich as the city itself since Star Park was part of the original city plan. The park sits in the center of a five-street intersection giving rise to its creative name. There are no restrooms at the this venue or play area at this venue.

 

Coronado Sunset Park

101 Ocean Avenue

This park sits adjacent to Dog Beach at the north end of Ocean Ave. There is very little shade here but, is home to soccer matches and other team activities throughout the weekend. The putting green-like grass provides a massage like feel like you’re walking barefoot.  This is another perfect location for eating lunch, watching the kids play a game or letting the dog dry off from a day on dog beach.  You’ll be sure to enjoy the view of the ocean from here.

 

Coronado Tidelands Park

3rd Street at Glorietta Boulevard

This is another great park which offers fantastic views of the Coronado Bridge and San Diego Bay. It’s officially not owned by the City of Coronado but, still offers all its benefits to the public. The park is a sporting hub for everyone in Coronado to enjoy. It has four baseball fields, incredible skate park, childrens playground, picnic sites, bike and pedestrian paths, restrooms. Also, parking is available for more than a couple hundred vehicles. Over 20 acres is dedicated to recreation activities for all Coronado residents to enjoy.
